President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday night held a closed-door meeting with governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The high-level engagement, which began at 7:00 PM inside the Presidential Banquet Hall, comes just hours ahead of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday, July 24, 2025.

The APC governors were led into the Villa by Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, who also chairs the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF). Prior to their arrival, the governors had met for several hours at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja.

Though details of the discussions remain undisclosed, the meeting suggested was convened to align party positions and review key decisions ahead of the NEC session.

Top on the agenda is the issue of party leadership—particularly the vacant position of the National Chairman, following the resignation of former Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, in June.

It is expected that the governors and the President will weigh in on whether the chairmanship should return to the North Central zone, where it was previously zoned before Ganduje’s appointment.

The meeting was critical to building consensus on several strategic matters ahead of Thursday’s broader deliberations by the party’s highest decision-making body.
