The Federal Government has announced that Thursday, 25 December 2025; Friday, 26 December 2025; and Thursday, 1 January 2026 will be observed as public holidays to mark Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year celebrations.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji- Ojo, who extended warm Christmas and New Year greetings to Christians in Nigeria and around the world, as well as to all Nigerians celebrating the festiv
season.
Dr Tunji-Ojo encouraged Christians to reflect on the virtues of love, peace, humility and sacrifice, as exemplified by the birth of Jesus Christ, emphasisin the importance of these values in promoting national unity, tolerance and harmony.
He also called on all Nigerians, regardless of religion or ethnicity, to use the festive period to pray for peace, security and progress in the country, while supporting the Federal Government’s efforts towards nation-building and cohesion.
“The Christmas season and the New Year provide an opportunity for Nigerians to strengthen bonds of unity, show compassion and renew our commitment to national development,” the Minister said.
Citizens were further urged to remain law-abiding, security-conscious and moderate in their celebrations, and to cooperate with security agencies to ensure a peaceful and safe festive period.
Dr Tunji-Ojo wished all Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
