In a significant statement that underscores the government’s commitment to its armed forces, Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, has assured that every soldier performing lawful duties will receive full protection from the Ministry of Defence and the Military High Command.
Speaking at a ministerial press conference during the Armed Forces Remembrance Celebration at the National Defence College in Abuja on Wednesday, Minister Badaru addressed recent concerns following an altercation between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Navy Lieutenant A.M. Yerima over disputed land development in Abuja, allegedly belonging to former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Gambo.

“At the Ministry, and indeed the Armed Forces, we will always protect our officers on lawful duty. We are looking into this issue, and we assure that any officer on lawful duty will be protected highly. We will not allow anything to happen to him so far as he is doing his job, and he’s doing his job greatly well.”
This statement reinforces the principle that military personnel acting within the scope of their legitimate duties can expect full institutional support, regardless of the circumstances or parties involved. It sends a clear message about the sanctity of military operations and the protection of service members executing their responsibilities.

This development comes at a crucial time as Nigeria prepares for the Armed Forces Remembrance Day 2026, honoring those who have served and continue to serve the nation.
