The Honourable Minister of Defence, His Excellency Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, CON, mni, has commended the Nigerian Army for its efforts in maintaining stringent security along the Illela–Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway Project.
Honourable Badaru, who arrived in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, Thursday for a one-day operational visit to assess the ongoing military operations in the state, acknowledged that the construction site and surrounding communities have benefited immensely from the increased security presence.

“The commitment of the Nigerian Army to ensuring the safety and security of this vital infrastructure project is commendable,” the Minister stated.
“The Illela-Sokoto-Badagry Highway is crucial for economic development and connectivity across the nation, and its security is paramount. The Army’s dedication to deterring criminal activities and protecting construction workers is deeply appreciated.”

During his visit, the Minister received briefings from top military commanders on the security challenges in the region and the strategies being employed to address them. He also inspected security checkpoints and interacted with soldiers deployed along the highway.

The Minister emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment to providing the necessary resources and support to the Nigerian Army to enable them to effectively carry out their duties. He reiterated the importance of collaboration between the military, other security agencies, and local communities in maintaining peace and security in the area.

“The security of our nation is a collective responsibility,” he said. “We must all work together to create a safe and secure environment for our citizens and for the successful completion of this important infrastructure project.”

The Illela-Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway is a major infrastructure project aimed at improving transportation and trade across Nigeria. Its completion is expected to boost economic activity and create new opportunities for growth and development. The Nigerian Army’s continued efforts to secure the highway are vital to ensuring the project’s success.
Receiving the Honourable Minister of Defence, H.E. Mohammed Badaru, and his entourage for the operational visit at the Ahmadu Bello International Airport, Birnin Kebbi, were the Theatre Commander of Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General O.O. Soyele; the General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General S.A. Ajose; and Air Commodore G.I. Jibia, Air Component Commander, Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, along with other senior government and military officials.
